HDI conceives, develops, and facilitates humanitarian programs with partners.

We are now proud to collaborate with our longtime partner, the Foundation for Arts Culture and Education (FACE) on a humanitarian program to help the Kalash people of Pakistan.  HDI and FACE have already worked together on several United States Government endeavors and are pleased to once again join forces to bring humanitarian support to the Kalash people.

The Kalash tribe is a non-Muslim tribe struggling to maintain its culture.  The people claim to be descendants of Alexander the Great whose army passed through the Indus Valley on its way home to Greece. The Kalash believe their ancestors were soldiers who married local woman and stayed in what is now the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province of Pakistan.

The Kalash people have always embraced gender equality; men and women are regarded as complete equals.  In Kalash culture, women can choose who they want to marry, can divorce if they wish, and can inherit money and take care of their own finances.  The Kalash wish to preserve their culture and practice their religion. This is becoming increasingly difficult because of economic hardships brought about by massive recent floods.  Families are suffering economically and are vulnerable to being enticed to convert for money.  Often, young Kalash girls are forced to convert and/or are married to much older men.

In these harsh economic times, the health of women is also particularly at stake.

To support the preservation of Kalash culture, FACE, working with UNESCO, has arranged for Kalash artists to tour to promote Kalasha culture and heritage to a wider audience.  It is expected that this will attract environmentally conscious and culturally curious tourists to visit the valley of the Kalash people.

Our goal is to raise money for HDI and FACE to provide critical medical equipment for the women of Kalash which current economic constraints preclude Kalash women from obtaining.

Money raised before January 2021 will be used to purchase the most necessary medical equipment to maintain women’s health.

This includes:

1. Ultrasound machines;

2. Oxygen machines;

3. Suction instruments;

4. Table baby warming machines;

5. Couch emergency tables with instruments;

6. Nebulizer machines.
