HDI Is Honored to Have Been Invited by Uzbekistan To Be Among the Official Observers of Its July 9, 2023 Presidential Election

The Humpty Dumpty Institute (HDI) works around the world to inform and foster dialogue amongst critical stakeholders on key global issues. We do this through our programs with the U.S. Congress and the United Nations, engaging young people, supporting cultural diplomacy, and working on humanitarian programs.

HDI has a strong relationship with the people of Uzbekistan. Our programs in Uzbekistan have included U.S. Congressional visits under the auspices of the U.S. Department of State Mutual Educational and Cultural Act and public diplomacy programs in coordination with the U.S. Embassy in Tashkent.

On July 9, 2023, early Presidential elections were held in Uzbekistan in response to a Constitutional Referendum approved in April 2023. Hundreds of nonpartisan international observers were on hand to report on the technical integrity of the election. Teams of observers were deployed and followed a professional methodology based on international and domestic standards for democratic elections. The country invited these impartial international observers to provide a credible, data-driven assessment of the conduct of the July 9 election. HDI was among the invited international organizations to observe the casting of ballots. During the course of the day, HDI visited six polling places at which more than 12,000 ballots were cast. The elections were technically well-prepared, and there was no indication of problems. All six polling places allowed unfettered access and provided complete answers to all questions posed by observers.

HDI congratulates the Republic of Uzbekistan on an orderly and accessible election. The U.S. Embassy in Tashkent said, “The U.S. Embassy commends the citizens of Uzbekistan for their participation in the election and notes their support for President Mirziyoyev at the ballot box. As President Mirziyoyev begins his new mandate, the United States stands ready to help advance his reform and improved governance agenda, including on the rule of law, checks, and balances among branches of government, and the protection of individual rights”.

Strong relations between the United States and Uzbekistan are essential for the stability of Central Asia. HDI is proud that our work fosters dialogue, which contributes to regional security and advancing U.S. foreign policy goals.
