HDI is Pleased to Announce That The Accused, Damned or Devoted, Co-Produced by HDI Trained Filmmaker Musharaf Shah, Is Now Streaming in the United States

The Humpty Dumpty Institute (HDI) works around the world to inform and foster dialogue amongst critical stakeholders on key global issues. We do this through our programs with the U.S. Congress and the United Nations, engaging young people, supporting cultural diplomacy, and working on humanitarian programs. HDI is committed to supporting cultural diplomacy, including implementing film programs with U.S. Embassies and Consulates.

We are pleased to announce that The Accused, Damned or Devoted, Co-Produced by HDI Trained Filmmaker Musharaf Shah, is now streaming in the United States.  This documentary film looks at Pakistani Cleric Khadim Hussain Rizvi’s mission to preserve Pakistan’s blasphemy laws. These laws prescribe a mandatory death sentence for disrespecting The Prophet Muhammad and life imprisonment for desecrating the Quran. Millions of Pakistanis are sympathetic to his goal, and the cleric has a strong influence over the Pakistani government and tries to silence anyone attempting to change the law by condemning them to death. Musharaf Shah was forced to flee Pakistan after the release of this film.

Musharaf Shah remains a consultant on our film programs as HDI trains other young filmmakers. He recently met and gave advice to Russian filmmakers being trained by HDI under a grant from U.S. Embassy Moscow, which is intended to maintain people-to-people relations despite Putin’s brutal aggression against Ukraine.
