HDI organized a U.S. Congressional Delegation to Baku, Azerbaijan November 23-26, 2013. The program started on November 24th with a briefing at the U.S. Embassy to Azerbaijan. This was followed by a meeting with Mrs. Bahar Muradova, Vice Speaker of the Parliament of Azerbaijan and Mrs. Rabiyat Aslanova, Chair of Parliament’s Human Rights Committee. The following day the delegation met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs H.E. Elmar Mammadyarov, the Minister of Transportation, H.E. Ziya Mammadov, and the Minister of Economic Development H.E. Shahin Mustafayev. The final events of the visit occurred at the renowned Azerbaijan Diplomatic Academy at which the delegation met with students from across the Former Soviet Union who study at the Academy in preparation of going into their countries’ diplomatic services. The Members of Congress also had the opportunity of meeting with leading international relations faculty to discuss issues of importance to the U.S.-Azerbaijan relationship.
