University of Bahrain joins Higher Education Alliance

September 16, 2013 - For Immediate Release

The Humpty Dumpty Institute (HDI) is pleased to announce that the University of Bahrain (UoB) is the first international educational institution to join HDI’s Higher Education Alliance (HEA) program. The University of Bahrain is the premier institution of higher learning in Bahrain, with over 18,000 mostly undergraduate students in nine distinct colleges. This partnership is part of HDI’s continuing efforts to build bridges between the United Nations community and institutions of higher learning around the world and in particular, universities and colleges in the Middle East and Gulf regions.

The Higher Education Alliance was established by the Humpty Dumpty Institute in 2011 in order to establish strong ties between academic institutions and the United Nations. Participating schools enhance the globalization of their campuses by enabling students and faculty to interact with, and gain first-hand knowledge of, the United Nations and its family of Specialized Agencies. Nearly 60 colleges and universities representing over 500,000 students across the United States are already members of the Alliance. As members, schools host senior ranking UN officials, Ambassadors, policymakers and leading experts in world affairs as guest lecturers and visit UN Headquarters in New York for intensive orientation sessions, seminars and conferences. These events allow the students and faculty to engage and experience the UN, as well as explore firsthand the wide range of global issues on its agenda. Select students will also have the opportunity to serve as interns at international institutions, UN Missions, and non-governmental organizations in both New York and Europe based on availability.

In marking the occasion, Mr. Ralph Cwerman, President of the Humpty Dumpty Institute, said, “Having the University of Bahrain as HEA’s first international member is very significant given the emergence of the Gulf States as important regional and international actors in the region and at the United Nations. Living in a global world, it is necessary, even vital, to give students a more comprehensive understanding of the largest and most significant global institution in the modern world. The best way to do this is to give universities and colleges in the Gulf and around the world the right tools to connect with each other. And that is exactly what HDI’s Higher Education Alliance offers."
