July 24, 2015 - For Immediate Release

The Humpty Dumpty Institute is pleased to announce a significant delivery of vital medicines to the people of Somalia. In June, 2015, $1 million dollars worth of medicines was delivered to Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud pictured below with U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry. This follows the successful delivery of medicines to Nepal in May, 2015 following the devastating earthquake in that country. The medicines to both countries, Nepal and Somalia, were donated by Humpty Dumpty Institute Board Director Walter Arbib and his son, Stephen. The Humpty Dumpty Institute facilitated the delivery of medicines in each instance.

John Kerry in SomaliaThis delivery of medicines comes on the heels of a first-time visit by an U.S. Secretary of State to Somalia in May, 2015. John Kerry went to Mogadishu, Somalia’s capital, to meet with Somalia’s President and to pledge support to the people of Somalia. In a video address to the Somali people Kerry said "You have known immense suffering from violence, from criminals, from sectarian strife, from dire shortages of food and from an inability to remain safely even within your villages and homes."

Somali senior presidential advisor Mohamed Ali Abdullah travelled to Toronto in early June to thank Walter Arbib and the Humpty Dumpty Institute for their humanitarian assistance. Abdullah said "God Bless you for sending this badly needed medicine. We are facing many challenges as we begin to rebuild our country. It is good to know that we can count on new friends in the West to help us fulfill this vital mission."

Walter Arbib and his son Stephen, Canadian philanthropists have been sending shipments of medicines to countries in need all over the world over the past five years. In 2013, Mr. Arbib asked the Humpty Dumpty Institute to help facilitate a $500,000 shipment of medicines to the State of Kachin in northern Myanmar. Last month, the Humpty Dumpty Institute facilitated another delivery of medicines to Nepal valued at $400,000 and has now successfully completed the delivery of badly needed medicines worth $1 million to Somalia. Mr. Arbib and his son are strongly committed to providing free medicine to populations in distress all over the world and are preparing to send many more millions of dollars worth of medicine to additional countries in collaboration with the Humpty Dumpty Institute.

Ralph L. Cwerman, the President and CEO of the Humpty Dumpty Institute, said, "Walter Arbib and his son, Stephen, are true humanitarians and have truly saved countless lives all over the world through these shipments of valuable medicines. The Humpty Dumpty Institute is honored to have Walter as one of its Board Members. That our organization is able to help deliver these medicines is testimony to our own commitment to help those in need."

The Humpty Dumpty Institute also wishes to thank our primary sponsor, Chicken Soup for the Soul and its CEO, William Rouhana for his assistance in the shipment of these packages of medicines.
