(Ontario, Canada, January 5, 2015) - A Canadian philanthropist together with the Humpty Dumpty Institute is sending much needed pharmaceuticals in the hopes that it will assist in alleviating the ongoing shortage of medicine in the Kurdish areas of both Iraq and Syria.
spcr
According to the World Health Organization ("WHO") there are millions of people in these areas that are currently in need of medical assistance or support, and the situation is only deteriorating. (World Health Organization, Situation Report Number 25 08 June – 28 June 2015)

The medicine is being donated by Stephen Arbib, CEO of MAG Logistics and son of Canadian philanthropist and Humpty Dumpty Institute Board Member Walter Arbib, who is already well known for providing antiretroviral medications to people who are among the most vulnerable around the world.
spcr
"People are suffering every single day," added Stephen Arbib. "Organizations like WHO are doing a tremendous job of providing medicine, funding and vaccinations, but there is always more that can be done given the major challenges the area is currently facing."
spcr
The Arbib family and the Humpty Dumpty Institute have most recently provided much needed medicine and equipment to countries around the world such as Myanmar, Nepal, Somalia and Mozambique. This particular shipment of medicine will mark the third philanthropic endeavor into Iraq, Syria and Kurdistan.
spcr
Stephen Arbib continued, "The conflict in Iraq is creating significant challenges in terms of getting medicine to where it is needed most. While we would like to help every community, we selected The Kobani community, which has suffered greatly at the hands of ISIS."
spcr
Ralph Cwerman, President and CEO of the Humpty Dumpty Institute said that "HDI was proud to facilitate the shipments of these medicines and to help Stephen and Walter Arbib implement such worthy philanthropic pursuits. The people in the Kurdish areas of Iraq and Syria are desperate for medicine and medical supplies".
spcr
Closures of supply routes, high conflict areas, medical supply shortages and staff shortages are among the other pressing challenges facing Iraq and Syria which serve to culminate into a severe health crisis.
spcr
"We should all be extremely concerned with the fact that large numbers of people are deprived of the medical assistance they need. This delivery of medicine is one small step but much more support is needed if we are to try and change the course for the health sector in Iraq," said Stephen Arbib.
spcr
The pharmaceuticals will treat a range of conditions and illnesses and include several classes of antibiotics such as Amoxicillin and Ciprofloxacin. The value of the medical shipment is estimated to be $250,000 USD.
