New York, NY - The Humpty Dumpty Institute (HDI) announced today the receipt of a new one-year grant in the amount of $439,000 from the U.S. Embassy in Pakistan in support of HDI's International Film Exchange Program (IFE). This program trains young filmmakers from developing countries and helps them use the power of film and television to highlight important social issues. In addition, the IFE Program raises awareness in the U.S. film industry about the struggles of filmmakers abroad when attempting to document those issues.

The new grant allows the Humpty Dumpty Institute to bring fifteen Pakistani filmmakers to Los Angeles in June, 2016 for a week-long intensive training course at UCLA’s world renown School of Theatre, Film and Television. The curriculum includes classes on film financing, marketing and distribution, creative and physical production, and visual effects. Additionally, practitioners from the U.S. film industry will serve as mentors for program participants and work with them over a period of five months after the training to help the group produce five short films. Two of the mentors will travel to Pakistan to conduct follow up workshops for participating filmmakers and also provide training for other filmmakers who were unable to travel to the United States. HDI will work with the U.S. Embassy in Pakistan to achieve the widest possible distribution of the completed films.

The President of the Humpty Dumpty Institute, Ralph Cwerman, welcomed the news saying "Our International Film Exchange program is a significant part of our Public Diplomacy efforts around the world and will continue to enable HDI to connect promising filmmakers around the world with some of Hollywood’s best known professionals and to generate what we know will be a series of compelling short films about some of the most important issues of our time."

Cwerman continued, "These Pakistani filmmakers compose our second group of foreign artists following our highly successful group of Iraqi filmmakers whose short films went on to win awards at major film festivals in Berlin and New York. With this new grant, HDI is achieving one of its most important goals -- bringing foreign filmmakers from different parts of the world to Los Angeles for some of the best technical and creative training that is available. Additionally, the mentorships will bring some of Hollywood's finest to Pakistan to continue to work with these artists."
