On Tuesday, September 25th 2007, HDI hosted a coffee reception in honor of the U.S. Congressional Delegate to the General Assembly, Congressman Ted Poe (R-TX). The reception was attended by United Nations officials including Randy Rydell, Senior Political Affairs Officer in the Department of Disarmament Affairs and Charles Bernimolin, OCHA Humanitarian Affairs Officer covering Iraq. In addition, the Italian Parliamentary Delegation to the United Nations General Assembly led by Italian Senator and former Foreign Minister Lamberto Dini participated. Also in attendance were staff members of the United States Mission to the United Nations and Susan Myers from the United Nations Foundation.
The guests were welcomed by The Humpty Dumpty Institute Board Member and former Chair of the House International Relations Committee Congressman Ben Gilman. The reception which took place in the Brooklyn View Room of the Millennium UN Plaza Hotel was an occasion to foster dialogue between the U.S. Congress and the United Nations. Congressman Poe, who serves on the House Foreign Affairs Committee and the Europe and Terrorism Subcommittees, had the opportunity to exchange views with his Italian counterparts and to informally discuss U.N. activities and priorities with high placed U.N. Secretariat officials.
