The Humpty Dumpty Institute’s Spokesman, Mary Wilson, traveled with her entire band to Russia and Ukraine January 24 to February 5. The trip was made possible through grants from U.S. Embassy Moscow and U.S. Embassy Kyiv to the Humpty Dumpty Institute.

Miss Wilson arrived in Moscow shortly before the tragic bombing of Domodedovo Airport on the afternoon of January 24. On that evening she traveled to Nizhny Novgorod where she performed to an audience of 600 the following evening. Concerts in the southern Russian cities of Krasnodar and Sochi followed. On Monday, January 31, Mary performed at Moscow’s famous House of Music where close to 2,000 people were in attendance. On February 1, Mary spoke to 200 students at Moscow premiere contemporary art exhibition hall The Garage.

Her lecture was entitled: “American Culture/American Values: The intersection of the U.S. Civil Rights Movement and Motown”. Her final activity in Moscow was a concert at the home of the U.S. Ambassador at which Russian governmental, business, and cultural leaders attended.

On February 3, Mary and her band of eight, traveled to Kyiv, Ukraine. In Kyiv, Mary opened an exhibition of Supremes Gowns and gave a sold out performance at the National Tchaikovsky Musical Academia Theater. The Kyiv concert and gown exhibition were made possible through the generous support of IMC Production and Citibank.

In Russia and Ukraine, Mary discussed the importance of people to people diplomacy, the work of The Humpty Dumpty Institute around the world, and the contributions that black Americans have made in forging a truly unique American musical culture.

The Humpty Dumpty Institute is committed to fostering dialogue between the United States Congress and the United Nations as well as providing humanitarian and demining assistance around the world. The Humpty Dumpty Institute is extremely grateful for the support of U.S. Embassies around the world in allowing Miss Wilson to highlight U.S. culture. In so doing, she also has the opportunity to discuss the work of The Humpty Dumpty Institute with diverse audiences.
